Older Blues musicians' family receive royalties?

I was wondering if the family of prewar blues artists who are deceased such as Son House, Skip James, Blind Willie McTell, and such receive any royalties from current album sales?

There is no single answer to that question. In some cases, yes. Robert Johnson's heir is receiving royalties for example. In most cases, the answer is sadly no. Many artists received one time payments for recording sessions and never had contracts that would entitle them to royalties-performance or otherwise. Even those that had contracts rarely received the monies due them. As labels were/are absorbed into multi-national conglomerates, it is even easier for artists to be cheated. Ruth Brown's autobiography goes into great detail about her fight to get royalties from Atlantic records and the Rhythm & Blues Foundation's fight to get royalties for others from various labels. I highly recommend it if you are interested in how many artists have been treated over the years.
