Kitty and her kittens

Kitty, the love of my childhood

So, how this for dating myself: Over to the right is a box that says "The Swinger." That was my 1966 birthday present... the Polaroid  Swinger! If you're too young to remember that, check out this vintage TV commercial. So, what was the first thing I did with my new Swinger? Took a picture of Kitty — my love, my companion, my best friend.

Kitty's first litter

Kitty looks after her kittens as Joan peers into the box. Kittens from left to right: Blynken, Nod & Wynken. Joan and Nod

Joan proudly displays the beautiful Wynken, now a little older but still a kitten. Kitty and Joan pose for Halloween. (I'm wearing a Japanese kimono designed and sewn by my mom.)

OK, the picture's a little faded, but here's Wynken snuggling up with me in an uncharacteristically affectionate moment. (He generally wasn't much of a lap cat.) And here I am in 1968, posing for the camera in a miniskirt.

Full grown Wynken

Wynken helps to groom his mother, Kitty.

1973: My niece Jennifer pets Wynken as my mom looks on. (Seems we finally sprung for a camera that takes color pictures.)
