How does McDonalds get away with saying "100% beef, 0% anything else"?
They used to play with semantics by saying "real beef" was used, conveniently ignoring the other ingredients that were used. But now they are saying "100% beef, 0% anything else", which seemingly makes it certain that only beef is used. So I'm wondering what semantic trick they are using here?
If they advertise 100% beef, then it is 100% beef. Keep in mind that they didn't specify exactly what parts of the animal the meat came from. I'm not saying that they would use any non-meat parts of the cow, just perhaps trim that you might only find in store bought hamburger. That trim, by itself would rarely be packaged to be sold in American supermarkets.
The risk of using semantics to fool the consumer would be foolhardy on the part of any restaurant. The "real beef" campaign was risky but not dishonest.
